Invitation to you and your family to come to the Australia Day event.
The Ocean Shores Community Association (OSCA) and North Byron Business Chamber (NBBC) will be celebrating Australia Day in a very different way this year because of the restrictions of the corona virus regulations. We have had to cancel our traditional Mullet Throwing Championship at the Ocean Shores Public School, and our Lions Sausage Sizzle and our Aussie Singalong. At our meeting in November we made the decision not to hold the Australia Day event in 2021 due to the difficulty in conforming our mullet throw, sausage sizzle and Aussie Singalong etc with government corona requirements.
However we received an email from Council asking OSCA if possible to hold an event. This was discussed at our Christmas meeting and it was agreed to try a different way to celebrate Australia Day.
We will be holding our ceremony on Australia Day Tuesday 26th January at the Ocean Shores Baptist Hub Church cr. Rajah Road and Bingaree Way 11am for an 11.30am start. Parking available in church grounds or Target carpark. The official Australia Day Ambassador Queenslander Brad Farmer AM known for his love for our 11,000+ beaches, will be coming. Lunch will be in boxes (accessed from local Billi business GreenPak) and will include a pre cut slice of our Giant Lamington (from Diane our local baker).
We have decided this year to begin a new tradition of celebrating people who have made a difference to our town and district. In this first year of these awards we are looking back over the past 50 years of Ocean Shores. We are giving awards to people in our community who have made a difference. As well the Mullet Throw Champions of 2020 will receive their engraved awards, which didn’t happen last year because of the corona shutdown.
